研究方向:

1植硅体研究初步建立了我国植硅体分类系统,提出了区分水稻、黍、粟农作物植硅体的分类标准明确了中国不同气候带土壤中植硅体组合特征,为进一步开展我国植硅体学研究奠定了基础
2)多指标现代过程分析及古气候定量估算较系统地开展了我国陆相古气候定量研究工作,量化了土壤磁化率与气候参数的函数关系,初步认识了我国现代土壤有机碳同位素空间分布规律,建立了表土植硅体、孢粉组合与气候参数和植被类型的定量关系,进行了多指标综合古气候定量研究的探索. 
3)孢粉学研究系统开展了我国湖泊、海洋、青藏高原和西北干旱区第四纪和现代表土孢粉分析,结合植硅体分析,验证了黄土高原地质、历史时期基岩山地、沟谷和塬面古植被记录的差异;提出了青藏高原那曲地区250万年来5次大的植被变化的孢粉学证据;揭示了从东南沿海向青藏高原高寒地区全新世气候温度、降水时空变化规律;发现了近百年气候变暖叠加于500年自然周期暖相位的孢粉学证据发现并解释了我国东部冰消期海、陆气候变化的不同步现象 
4)环境考古研究:利用植硅体、花粉、淀粉分析等手段,对我国陕西关中、河北、河南、长江三角洲地区、西藏、新疆罗布泊等地区重点考古遗址,开展了农业考古和环境考古研究,对于早期水稻、粟、黍农业起源、传播,青海喇家遗址4000年前古代面条成分分析,1800年前丝绸之路穿越青藏高原的茶叶证据磁山文化农业考古,环境变化与农业起源的关系等方面取得了一些新认识.
