Research Interests:

I am interested in bio-geomagnetism, mineral and rock magnetism, paleointensity of Earth’s magnetic field, biomineralization of iron minerals, paleomagnetism and their applications to geosciences.

(1) Bio-geomagnetism and biomineralization: understand how magnetic field influences organisms, from bacteria to animals, of present, past and future; investigate the diversity, biomineralization and magnetism of uncultured and cultured magnetotactic bacteria, magnetic navigation of various animals (homing pigeon, migratory bat and fish), biominerals formation by iron reducing/oxidizing bacteria as well as ferritins;

(2) Paleomagnetism and paleointensity:  paleointgensity variations in Cretaceous normal superchron and Kiaman reversal superchron and constraints to the Earth’s deep interior, relative paleointensity from continental sediments; magnetostratigraphy of sedimentary basins and dating, and

(3) Mineral magnetism and application in geosciences: magnetic minerals of earth and meteorites and their implications; biominerals as biomarkers for searching early life and as potential indicators of paleoenvironments.
